A Guardian Angel - Utah Hot
A Guardian Angel Adoption Agency is FANTASTIC!!!
We adopted a beautiful baby boy almost two years ago, and he's thriving! Yvonne was amazing; upfront, well informed, sensitive, and honest. When we went to Utah we met Jodi who was heaven sent! She guided us through from start to finish. We didn't know if the birthmom wanted to meet us or not, but we did meet and it was wonderful. We did have to stay in Utah longer than expected, and unfortunately Jodi had to go away for a few days. The person "in place" of Jodi was angry and miserable. We did not care for her at all, and I found her to be highly controlling, rude, and insensitive. I would absolutely use A Guardian Angel again, and have recommended this agency to so many people. My only caution is to make certain you get to work with Jodi, who does handle the vast majority of the adoptive parents. We love this agency and will be forever grateful to Yvonne, Jodi, and all the phenomenal nurses at Jordan Valley Medical. Also, much love and appreciation our sons birthmother!
WONDERFUL AND CARING
OK LET ME START BY SAYING THAT BEFORE I CALLED AGA I CALLED OTHER PLACES, ID RATHER NOT NAME. I AM THE BIRTHMOM TO A BEAUTIFUL BABYGIRL, AND ALTHOUGH I ALREADY HAVE CHILDREN I COULD NOT KEEP THIS BLESSING WITH ME X REASONS. ANYWAY, WHEN I DECIDED TO PLACE MY BABY IN A LOVING HOME I WAS ALREADY 7 MONTHS PREGNANT, AND TIME WAS RUNNING. CALLING AGA WAS THE BEST THING I COULD OF HAVE DONE, THEIR STAFF WAS INCREADIBLY CARING, ESPECIALLY MY CASAWORKER!!! I WAS PROVIDED WITH EVERYTHING I NEEDED. I GOT TO PICK THE FAMILY THAT KEPT MY DAUGTHER, AND THEY ARE WONDERFUL. I WANNA TAKE THE TIME TO SAY THANK YOU TO; JODY,MELANIE, AND SPECIALLY TO MARLI, NOT ONLY WERE U AWSOME BUT YOU BECAME MY FRIENDS IN MY TIME OF NEED. ILL NEVER FORGET HOW MUCH YOU CARED AND HELPED NOT ONLY ME BUT THE ADOPTIVE FAMILY AS WELL. ALL MY LOVE.
Kirsh & Kirsh is a great agency
Recently I needed an emergency adopton for my 15 year old daughter. I found out she was pregnant on thursday night and was taking her to the delivery room on saturday night. She had hidden it from me and the whole family for 9 months. I didn't think it was possible but it did happon.
My daughter wanted to have the baby adopted. Me and the adoptive parents were not knowledgable on how to proceed. I was told about Steven Kirsh at Kirsh and Kirsh in Indianapolis Indiana.
I called him in the morning, and he was at the hospital with all needed documents by 3 in the afternoon with a 3 hour drive to get there. I must say that Steven Kirsh was the most knowledgable and compasionate lawer that I had ever met. He was accually representing the adoptive parents, but treated my daughter, the birth mother with the most respect and understanding that was possible. This was the most pleasent thing that had happoned in 3 days.
He was compleatly knowledgable about everything that was going to happon. And explained it to everyone involved in terms that could be understood. This made my daughter feel much better about the situation.
I would reccommend Steven Kirsh to anyone thinking about an adoption without any reserve. He is the most pleasent and knowelageable lawer that I had ever met. He handled every aspect of the adoption. And made my daughter feel much better about herself.
We were matched with our birthmom approximately one week before our daughter's birth. Everything, from the time the match was made, went as exactly as planned. We found the agency to be very forthright about information. The caseworkers very pleasant , extremely helpful, and kept us informed every step of the way.
Our birthmother was also very happy with the services that she received during the process. She told us that she felt as though the caseworker kept her well informed, the apartment that she stayed in was nice, she had ample opportunities for activities and sight seeing during her stay.
We could have not asked for anything better, and we often recommend this agency to anyone that we come into contact with that is seeking to adopt.
MY WIFE I DECIDED TO USE THEM AFTER SPEAKING WITH ONE OF THEIR REPRESNATIVES.THEY ACTED LIKE THEY WERE TRULY CONCERENED ABOUT THE MOTHER AND BABY AND WE DECIDED TO FLY TO UTAH.THEY PUT US IN A NICE HOTEL STYLE APARTMENT,BUT AS SOON AS WE GOT THEIR THEY COMPLETLY CHANGED THEIR TONE.IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER AND THEY PROMISED TO DO THINGS WITH HER TO KEEP HER OCCUPIED,WRONG.THE AVERAGE DAILY TEMPUTURE WAS 28-30 DEGREES SO GETTING OUTSIDE WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION.OUR CASE WORKER HAD A FULL TIME JOB SO IN ORDER FOR US TO GET OUT WE HAD TO WORK AROUND HER SCHEDULE.ONE THING THAT REALLY BOTHERED MY WIFE WAS WHEN THE CASE WORKER WOULD COME PICK US UP SHE WOULD BRING HER KIDS,AND BEING THE SITUATION WE WERE IN BRINGING KIDS ALONG JUST DIDNT SEEM TO BE APPROPRIATE.AFTER A WEEK OF BEING TRAPPED IN UTAH MY WIFE GOT DEPRESSED AND DECIDED SHE WANTED TO BE AROUND FAMILY AND ASKED IF SHE COULD GO HOME AND FINISH THE ADOPTION PROCESS THERE.THE AGENCY GOT MAD AND TOLD MY WIFE THEY WERE GOING TO PUT HER ON A BUS AND SHIP US BACK.THEY ALSO WENT ON TO TELL HER THEY WERE NO LONGER GOING TO HELP HER WITH ANY MEDICAL,AND FOR US TO CALL THEM FROM TIME TO TIME TO SEE IF SHE STILL EVEN WANTED TO GO THROUGH WITH THE ADOPTION(KEEP IN MIND MY WIFE HAD ASKED IF SHE COULD FINISH THE PROCESS AT HOME IN TENNESSEE).THEY PURCHASED US TWO BUS TICKETS THE NEXT DAY AND DROPPED US OFF AT THE BUSS STATION 3 1/2 HOURS EARLY WITH 25.00 FOR THE TRIP.KEEPING IN MIND MY WIFE IS 8 MONTHS PREGNANAT.BEFORE WE LEFT THEY MAE HER SIGN A PIECE OF PAPER STATING THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ONE DOCTORS VISIT THEY TOOK HER TO AND WOULD BE SENDING THE BILL DIRECTLY TO HER.WE SPENT FOUR DAYS ON A BUS,HALF THE TRIP WAS IN KANSAS ON A BUS WITH NO HEAT IN 8 DEGREE WEATHER.ON THE FOUR DAY TRIP SHE CAME DOWN WITH TOXIMEA.MY BOTTOM LINE IS THIS AGENCY IS ABOUT ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY.MONEY.HOW MUCH THEY CAN GET FROM THE FAMILY THAT IS ADOPTING.THEY ARE ALL ABOUT THEMSELVES AND NOTHING ABOUT THE BIRTHMOTHERS.WE NEVER SAW A SOCIAL WORKER WHILE WE WERE THERE.IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING GIVING A CHILD UP FOR APOTION,THINK TWICE ABOUT USING THIS AGENCY.WE WILL ALSO BE CONTACTING THE STATE AND FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH DEMANDING IN THE FUTURE THAT BIRTH MOTHERS ARE TREATED MORE FAIRLY....
Good Utah Agency
This is an agency that really tries to do the right thing. Our experience was very positive. And while I guess some people say it is not ethical to fly birth moms to Utah, I am thankful they did this for our birth mom. She was in an abusive situation and had no prenatal care. They helped her out. We had previously been matched and the birth mother decided not to place. We had paid them $12,500. They rolled the whole amount to a new situation and offered to refund the money if we preferred. They had been working with this birth mom for several months so I know they had money into her. We feel very fortunate and blessed to have our baby and thank Guardian Angel for their hand in it. I do wish this agency put their birth mothers on Medicaid. We had to private pay the medical expenses. It was explained to us that if a birth mother comes to Utah without intention of staying and she applies for Medicaid, it is considered fraud. Regardless, I have a beautiful son. Were they perfect, no. Adoption is very emotional and personal. I know staff were attentive to our birth mom and to us and we feel good about our situation and will use Guardian Angel again.
For the most part I was satisfied with the service we received from AGA. We were selected quickly and the majority of the experience was pleasant.
First a warning: During the selection process they call you every time they want to show you to a birth mom to ask you if you would like to be shown in that situation. I understand why they do that, but be prepared because it makes the selection process much more of an emotional roller coaster.
Now for the part that I was really dissatisfied with - service at finalization. I received a call from the agency 2 1/2 business days before we were scheduled to finalize saying that we would have to move our court date. They didn't have all of the paperwork needed (but couldn't tell me what was missing) and they already had another adoption that morning and refused to do two in the same day. We eventually found out that our lawyer had ordered the paternity search but nobody knew where the paperwork was. (In fairness it was probably our lawyer's previous secretary that lost the paperwork - one of many reasons she is his previous secretary - but who lost the paperwork is not the issue. The issues are: 1) why are we just hearing about this, 2) what each party did to resolve the issue, and 3) did she really just say they "REFUSED" to do a second finalization in the same day?)
The lawyer and I jumped through hoops to get the paperwork in time. While we were doing this what was the agency doing? They finally decided that they had someone who could make it if we managed to get the paperwork and they spent the rest of the time writing a letter to the judge to make sure he knew it was not their fault if we showed up without the paternity search and/or without a representative from the agency. Basically they did absolutely nothing to help and spent their time covering their own assets so the judge would still like them.
My wife and I haven't decided if we will use them again, but I know we will watch them much closer next time to make sure they do what they promised to do in the paperwork.
Sometimes it seems that agencies and lawyers spend so much time around adoptions that they forget how emotional it can be for the adoptive family. It may be just another finalization for them, but it is my family and I expect them to handle this with the same attention that they would give their own family.
My good friend and I have both adopted African American newborns from them. They were great to work. I would recommend them to anyone!
I completely DISAGREE!
They did find us a match, but their follow up care of their birth mom's is basically non-exsistant! How do you provide counseling and follow up care to women all over the US? The agency flys birth mom's into Utah, away from all their resources, and medicaid. THANK GOD our birth mom did not go to Utah, and was able to stay in her home state, she was covered by medicaid and had her family for support. We set up all her follow up services and couseling, AGA did nothing. I hate to make blanket general statements, but ALL of the agencies in UT that fly bmom's to UT for delivery are under close scrutiny as compeltely unethical. Make the choice by ethics! We made it clear to them we would not accept a match where the bmom had flown to UT, because we didn't agree with it. They have done nothing for our child's bmom, in fact we had to get after them to even send her the post partum expenses she was promised! She was told we had not paid our fees, and we HAD. Over all, when we adopt again, I will look for an agency that takes better care of their birth moms!
