Serbia

We were also in the Serbia program and were told the other day that the program is dead and that they were told that the Serbian govt had been making false promises. Not sure what to make of all of it though.

Right there with you all

My wife and I are also in the Serbia program. Just found this thread on here today. We too are cautiously optimistic. We understand its a pilot program and issue can arise. Just hope and pray. Hopefully we will all get to meet up with everyone here soon in Serbia!

Adopting from Serbia - Alert on US State Dept website

On March 29, 2013, the US State Department issued an alert for families adopting from Serbia.

If a family has questions, it is important that you contact the US Embassy in Belgrade.

India adoption

I can not express enough gratitude to IFS for our successful adoption from India. Our child is beautiful and is flourishing with us. Bethany and Brenda know what they are doing and are wonderful people. Bethany got back with me almost immediately after emailing her anytime. We found out we received our written court on superbowl Sunday at 8pm. Who else would be working on superbowl Sunday? Bethany really cares about the children and families. Our experience in India was wonderful due to the great coordinator, Rajeev. He made sure we were safe and well taken care of. You could tell how well respected he was by the way we were treated in the embassy and medical. As soon as we got home, we were greeted by emails from IFS congratulating us and making sure everything went ok. I think some people forget that the agency has no control of how the country handles things. Third world countries do not communicate or have a sense of urgency like the US. I wish we were younger and we would adopt again and it would be 100% with IFS.

In The Same Boat...

...as all of you. I have great hope though, that this will all work out! Communication is a bit slow and sporadic, which is frustrating, given such an emotional event. I imagine they are just as overwhelmed as us. We just need to pray (send good wishes, etc.) for each other, and soon we will all be smiling with our children by our side!

International Family Services (IFS)--RUN, DON'T WALK!!!

I would have given zero stars if that were possible. This agency should be investigated by BBB and blacklisted. They are con artists and have no business being in this important and sensitive field. We have had the misfortune of having to work with IFS for the past 2 years (their India program), and it has probably been the worst, most nightmarish experience of our lives. We have been led on, lied to repeatedly (watch out for Kim Cissell in the Friendswood, TX office), had our phone calls and emails ignored, and had our paperwork/documents lost, misplaced, or were just told "we never got them"--and this is paperwork that is extremely lengthy and time-consuming to have to re-do. All this back and forth "he said she said" business cost us valuable time, money, and emotional energy. We NEVER felt supported as adoptive parents. Our homestudy was in Aug 2012, and we still apparently aren't anywhere near being matched with a child (even though we completed all our paperwork). We've reported several complaints and concerns along the way, none of which were adequately addressed. They tend to push them under the carpet big-time and get back to you when they need your next payment. Then you won't hear from them again until the next payment is due. In this agency, the right arm doesn't communicate with the left. The people in the Portland, OR office have no idea what's going on (nor do they care) at the Friendswood, TX office. Even when we complained of gross negligence, incompetence, and outright shady behavior by an employee to the CEO, Bob Murdock, all he has to say is "please know that we support her [Kim Cissell]as one of the important members of our IFS team"--that's it!! He didn't even investigate any of our claims (despite the fact that some of our paperwork that this employee claims IFS "never received" we provided copies of and evidence that they had in fact received it). This guy could care less about the adoptive parents just as long as IFS keeps receiving its fees. We just informed them today that we've decided to fire them and that we want our last fee that we sent them a couple weeks ago to be returned ($4000+), but from what other posters have commented, IFS never refunds money--gee, what a surprise. The worst part is a close friend of mine just told me about 1 month ago that she had also tried to adopt from IFS India program (a few years back), and they completed all their paperwork only to NOT be matched with a single child!! And then they were told that their paperwork had expired, so they'd have to re-do all of it, pay the fees over again, and basically start the whole process all over again. Not surprisingly, they fired IFS--just as you should do if you are currently with them. DO NOT TRUST THIS AGENCY!! YOU WILL BE SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED AND YOU WILL WASTE HUGE AMOUNTS OF TIME, MONEY, AND ENERGY IN THE PROCESS!! (only to end up nowhere and without a child)
