This agency never disclosed to us that the birth mother was a minor nor that the baby was a premie. The child was extremely sick. There are over 6 months of missing medical reports. When we asked for medical reports or pictures, I was told that we were being unreasonable, as there was too much going on in Guatemala. After visiting the child and seeing how sick he was, we canceled the adoption. The owner of the agency FINALLY decided to visit the child. Strangely, my issue was that the child was severely handicapped and could not walk. Well, the baby's leg was broken 2 days before the owner was there to see if he could walk. The owner of the agency decided that the baby was fine. Moreover, that all our money was spent in Guatemala and he was a small non profit agency, and my husband's finacial status could afford a $14K loss!
After speaking with the Hague Accrediting people, I learned there were more issues that this agency violated. First off, they took the $14K without my 171H or HomeStudy in hand. Another thing that they did wrong was send me a picture of the baby, while I was not even a registered member of their agency. So... run from this agency. Do not lose any money from them. Strangely, the owner of the agency owns a profitable Day Care and apartment complexes.
