Children's House Intl

Having adopted 4 children using 3 different agencies, I have the highest of recommendations for Children's House International. They were instrumental in workiing with our family in the adoption of our son, who has a special need. Their information was accurate. They steered us successfullly over the bumps in the road. And the in-country facilitators were outstanding. Of all of the adoption agencies that we have had contact, what was particularly helpful, was the 1:1 assistance provided when needed. I would recommend this agency highly.

We now have two beautiful children thanks to Children's House. They were wonderful to work with and still offer support to us even after we have been home for 3 months. All fees and time frames were clearly defined and there were no surprises. I highly recommend them and plan to adopt through them again in the future.

Our daughter is thriving in NYC

We worked with Children's House International from June 2006 through February 2007 to successfully bring home our delightful 2 1/2 year old. The agency was responsive to our needs and we were very capably assisted while in KZ (my wife for 7 weeks and me for 5 of those 7 weeks). We have the highest regard for the Baby House in Petropavlosk, KZ which is very well run.

We had a wonderful experience with Children's House for our first adoption two years ago, and we are traveling soon to bring our second child home. We are very happy. We would use them again and highly recommend this agency. There seem to be some vicious attacks on this group and I think families should talk to the agency people, and talk to lots of families that have adopted through Children's House before believing all the viciousness.

Very poorly run

We have been nothing but unimpressed with our experience with Children's House International. When the orphanage in Haiti that our children were at started having major problems, CHI did nothing to help the situation. They had no control at all over an orphanage that did all their adoptions through CHI. When the orphanage finally shut-down, CHI did not go down and save the children. The children were locked unattended in the orphanage for days. CHI did nothing. When we discovered this, many families traveled down to save the children and move them to new orphanages. CHI provided no help or support the entire 2 weeks we were down there. They were even angry we told other families what was going on!

Children's House International--Hague Denied

1

There have been some recent posts in support of Children's House International. They did help some families complete adoptions, and obviously these families are grateful. However, there are many families that initiated adoptions with CHI but were unsuccessful. CHI pays these families money to be silent and not protest. Therefore, it is very difficult to get a balanced perspective on this agency. They are extremely poorly run and can also be deeply dishonest. A big warning to any PAPs considering this agency is the fact that they were denied Hague accredidation. Very few agencies are denied. This is public information and record. You can verify the information yourself on the government website. See this link and you will find that CHI was indeed denied Hague accredidation:

There are many fine agencies to choose from. CHI is not one of them.

Childrens House International--No Hague Accredidation

This is a very unsupportive, disorganized, and dishonest agency. We had interrupted adoptions in their KZ AND Russia program with them and finally quit working with them. If you want to know their real history, read the reviews and newspaper articles about the Russia Amrex debacle in 2004. They were one of the main, culprit agencies involved in this mess and left many children and families heart-broken, stranded, and financially ruined. As far as I can tell, they have done little to clean up their act. They mostly try to hide their history. I hope that they do not get Hague accredidation. They must be having problems because they have been seeking accredidation without it being granted for some time. I hope that the new Hague rules are stringent enough to stop agencies like CHI from hurting more families. This agency will lie to you, charge high fees upfront that are nonrefundable and before they have provided any services, ignore you for months, refuse to respond to your phone calls or emails without payment of new fees or signing new documents even after you are well into the process with them, name call and blame you for problems with the adoption process, change the terms of your adoption once you are in the process with them multiple times and threaten you with loss of already paid money and new wait times if you complain, etc. Basically, I experienced so many unprofessional, disorganized and overtly corrupt practices with them that I deeply regret getting involved with them. I wasted years and a lot of money. Since leaving them in 2004, my family successfully completed a KZ adoption through WPA. The difference in experiences between CHI and WPA was night and day. Everything with WPA went smoothly, and most importantly, they were responsive, oragnized and honest. For any country program that you are considering, I urge you to pick another agency besides CHI! You will be grateful that you did! WPA and Little Miracles have good reputations in KZ.

Unethical Agency/History of Problems in Many of Their Programs

1

This agency is in it for the money only. They do not care about the children, nor do they care about the families. They have a long history of problems in many of their country programs: Russia (AMREX debacle and swindle, main players in this saga!), Kazakhstan (many initiated but failed adoptions, lots of reports of blindsiding families overseas and demanding more cash before referral), Guatemala (many initiatied but failed adoptions and player in the illegal and unethical relinquishment of children that has helped halt adoptions in that country), Haiti (lots of failed adoptions and broken hearts), and the list goes on. They get into problems in almost every country that they set up a program in. BEWARE!!!! They only set up very superficial programs in a country and employ coordinators overseas that are not ethical (and neither are they). Then they market extensively to families in the US and charge a lot of money for "their services". They charge the money upfront, before the family really gets into the process with them. They clearly state that they offer no refunds. This is because they offer lousy service and if you proceed with them you will wish you could get a refund, your time, and your trust back---and they know this. Once you have made the mistake of getting involved with them and see your time, money, and hopes already invested, then they add new requirements, significant new financial demands (adding 30% more to the total cost originally quoted), and radically change the type what type of adoption they will assist you with (ie healthy to special needs only, infant to older child only, girl to older boy only, etc). This is clearly the workings of an unethical organization! They try to say that the unexepected changes are all out of their control, due to circumstances overseas, part of the international adoption process, etc. This is mostly BS. Most of the other agencies working in the same countries don't have the problems they do. This is just how they do business. They sound nice on the phone, promise you what you want to hear, collect your money, and then the problems begin. Having been burned by them many years ago, and as a member of the adoption community for almost 8 years now, I continue to be amazed at the HORROR stories of families that have been hurt by them. For any country that they have a program in and you are thinking of adoption from, I would warn you TO FIND ANOTHER AGENCY! There are agencies out there with good reputations and ethical programs. You don't want to get involved with this group, nor do you want to bring a child into your home through their contacts and means.

NOT Supportive !!

This agency is very poorly run-there is NO support for waiting parents, none at all. You will be ignored for months at a time with no news. Pick another agency if you want a supportive and quick process-these people lie about time frames for families.

god bless
