I wanted an agency that was not aligned to a specific religious preference. I also wanted an agency that was cost effective and professional. I found everything I was looking for in CAWLI and much more.
They were very professional. They were efficient and very courteous. We adopted a SN child and the other family who received a referral at the same time opted to travel later. CAWLI jumped through hoops so that I could travel ASAP. Our entire experience was positive.
I reviewed several agencies and went to some introductory meetings. All the info I reviewed, and all the meetings I attended, were very polished and professional........except for one. China Adoption with love is run on a shoestring budget and there was no fluff and polish in their introductory meeting. It was a roundtable discussion with the regional director and a social worker. Paper handouts (in black and white!!!!!) accompanied the discussion.
After that meeting I knew this was the agency for me. they did not feel the need to sell themselves. I found it very refreshing. Although there is no polish in their presentation and their offices are utilitarian at best, they shine in their service. Low cost does not have to mean low expectations. CAWLI delivers in abundance!!!!!
Since becoming a client I have discovered that CAWLI has a foundation that they administer for aid to children in orphanages in China. It is called the Rainbow fund. It is administered free of charge by the agency so that 100% of donations are sent where they are needed. that speaks volumes about the agency and the integrity of their program. The director is originally from China and is a sweetheart. LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!
CAWLI is a wonderful agency. The staff is great, very responsive. We're stuck in the slowdown with China, which obviously isn't CAWLI's fault. They've been, I think, more honest than many agencies about the wait. My only problem with CAWLI is they only do China, which isn't a stable program right now. But as an agency, they're wonderful.
We used CAWLI in 2006. We adopted a waiting child aged 5. The entire trip went well. Absolutely no problems (other than flying back to the USA after a typhoon hit Hong Kong!) CAWLI's colleagues in each city were fluent in English. Each made sure we knew what was happening each day. They were a great host/hostess. They provided "TLC" to our son, & gave us advice for sites to visit. Back in Massachusetts, Lillian (director) probably paced back and forth until we touched down at Logan. I remember her phone calls vividly - as if we were her own children far from home. Lillian is a unique person, with whom every perspective parent should converse! We have kept in touch with this agency. Although personnel may have changed, Lillian is still there. You can't be in better hands. If we could adopt again, there'd be no hesitation to return to CAWLI.
I used three different agencies to adopt my three daughters from China. China Adoption With Love was BY FAR the best!! They provide incredible service in assisting their clients to prepare their dossiers, support for waiting parents, excellent communication throughout the whole process, and a fabulous trip to China.....all for a lower price than any other agency that handles China adoptions. My daughter was a waiting child, and the agency owner called me in China the first night I had her to make sure everything was going well. There is also great follow-up with postplacement visits, post adotion support, and events that bring adoptive parents together. I would recommend this agency to anyone considering a China adoption!
CAWLI right now has a huge backlog and is not receiving referrals at all some months, only 5 last month. we have been DTC since April 2006 and still have no clear idea of when , if ever, we will receive a referral. CAWLI's estimates on placement are always incredibly unreliable and inaccurate, even though of course they are only an estimate. I tell anyone in the US to not even consider China now because a curtain has come down over the entire process. It is August 6th now and still no word on August 08 referrals; this has been the pattern recently. China slows the process by stalling on referral placements. We still have about 120 families in front of us, given the paucity of referrals that could mean a two year further waiting period, which is a bit ridiculous. Spare youreself the pain of what we have gone through and don't consider China or CAWLI. The staff is fine at CAWLI but they are too optimistic and because of that unintentionally misleading.
