Director's Salary $200,000

2

I have not yet adopted. I am in the process of finding an agency. Is it normal for the staff to be paid so highly? According to the 2006 990 filed by EAC with the IRS (can be viewed at www.guidestar.org) the director earned closed to $200,000 in 2006 and her board and staff contains a few relatives that are also well paid. Seems excessive to me.

EAC HORRIBLE!!

1

please listen to the negative comments here. they are correct. if you "rock the boat" in any way, like asking "too many" questions, you will get passed around, not get phone calls returned and out right lied to. EAC is all about the money. adoption is a wonderful option, but do your research and choose an agency that is truly a charitable one, interested in what is best for the child, not just in lining their pockets.

Bad Experience with EAC

1

Our experience with EAC was terrible. They were all about the money when we adopted our first child through them. We couldn't get answers and no one would return our calls. We just wanted someone to let us know what was happening. When we finally received a call, we were asked, "do you want another referral?" after we had our referral for months. How devastating. We stuck it out and were able to travel to adopt our daughter. We were not willing to give up on her like EAC was. Our 2nd adoption through a different agency was the best experience. The focus with our 2nd adoption agency for baby #2 was all about the children and NEVER about the money. EAC overpromised and underdelivered every step of the way.

EAC was NOT great

1

Just found this website today, however started with EAC earlier this year for the Guatemala program. We chose EAC off a referral, but maybe EAC is selective who is a good vs. not and that is then when they decide who gets the good treatment. We started the process with them and then when we started asking detailed questions they said that we must not want a child bad enough, since doing too much talking and not enough to move forward with process. Only a month or two into process we decided to part ways with EAC and went with another agency. This other agency may not have a person to answer the phone 24 hours a day, but who cares. I call during my lunch and lots of emails and not once have they told me I was asking too many questions. Also, EAC sells you on the fact that they have a hotel and staff in Guatemala, which is nice, but the Westin also has a hospitality suite and most in hotel spoke English and it is 2 blocks from Clarion/drug store. This is you and your future child's future you can not do enough research for your perfect fit and if you have a bad feeling listen to it. Also, decide your country before agency so you can find an agency with expencience and track record, that is what we did. But would not recommend EAC at all.

Nighmare adoption experience

1

I'm actually surprised EAC is still around.
We made the mistake to start an adoption with them when we were still very naive. 9 months of lies and deceiving tactics on the side of EAC made us grow up fast. This agency is all about money. When push comes to shove you are all alone with their threats to terminate your adoption. I'm surprised so many people don't see through their smoke screen.

Charges more for girls

1

They told me that "Russia" charges $2K more for girls when in fact Russia doesn't charge for adoptions, EAC does. This is their way to steer people toward adopting boys. Didn't like being lied to, so I went elsewhere.

Charges more for Girls Referrals

1

I didn't use them because they told me up front that "Russia" charges $2,000 more for girls than boys when in fact Russia does not charge for adoptions at all, it is their way to steer parents towards boys. No thanks, I don't care to be out and out lied to so I went elsewhere.

EAC - Ukraine

1

I heard great things baout EAC in Russia , but beware in Ukraine. We did not have any english speaking help at the airport and only saw our representative 15 minutes before our meeting with the SDA. They did not warn us or give us any indication of what we would experience during the horrible SDA meeting in which the psychologist asked us why we came to Kiev since they had no healthy babies. We were shown 10 children up to 5 1/2 years old with all types of illnesses and not one healthy child of any age. It was devastating! If they had just told us upfront before our trip we could have changed countries or not gone at all!!

BEWARE OF EAC

1

They just want to 'close the deal'. We got our first referral of a 9month old and our doctor - a bona find expert in the feild of international adoption medicine - found MANY signs of fetal alchohol exposure. The next referral - EAC strongly recommended we have a different doctor review the medicals and gave us the name of a guy they 'use for hundreds of cases'. This 'Doctor' was a physiatrist - that is someone who basically couldn't get an orthopedics residency so treats people who strained their neck or back at work. He doesn't treat children and has absoletly no experience treating children adopted from abroad. He gave this referral a thumbs up. Upon learning of his total lack of qualifications we went back to our original doctor who immediately found 3 physical features suggestive of fetal alcohol syndrome that was even worse when the medicals were reviewed. SHOCKING that they would treat people this way - they wanted us to use that quack doctor so we'd just finish paying them and close the deal. In addition - their paper work was slopppy, calls were seldom returned and we'd get different answers depending on who we ended up being able to speak with.

Horrible Experiance- Do not Reccomend!

1

EAC started off super nice, and promised everthing! Everyone was extemly kind to my husband and I. Overnight they turned their back on us, were incredibly rude, would pass off phone calls to other people to hang up on us. They have turned this into a horrible and devestating experiance for my family, and I doubt we will get back any money. I cant belive the 180 this agency pulled and would not reccomend them to anyone.

There's no other than EAC

5

My husband and I have adopted 2 children from Guatemala. With both children we chose to have EAC consultants help us. Throughout the entire process both times someone was always there to answer our questions and put our minds at ease. The trips to Guatemala were very enjoyable, and the Eac staff was right next door to help in any way they could. After going through this stressful process twice and now having 2 beautiful children, there's no other agency I would choose but EAC.

EAC is the ONLY choice !

Mary B
I reviewed MANY agencies before choosing EAC.The international adoptiion process can be daunting, EAC never let me feel as though I was alone in it. I never thought I would need "my hand held",and whether or not you do, EAC is there to hold it! The office staff in Ohio, my case worker and the staff ( Bobby, Dawn, & Kaya) in Guatemala , all provided support and ensured ALL needs were met. I would only recommend EAC for intl' adoption if you are looking for a quality agency who is both professional( makes you feel as though you get your money's worth) but also an agency that is nurturing and understands babies, parents & all involved in this emotional journey.

EAC is the BEST!

5

When deciding to adopt, we researched many agencies. We are so blessed to have found EAC! We were looking for an agency that would help us through every step of the process. We found this with EAC. From the application to picking up our child, they were there by our side. When we traveled to Guatemala, we were so at ease. All we had to do was show up and relax, EAC did everything for us.
They are wonderful, loving and caring people. We feel like a part of the EAC family. If you are looking for an agency, look no further! EAC is the best.

eac Russia

5

We basically went with them after talking with someone else who used them and probably even more because they were continuing with adoptions independently through the whole reacreditation mess. We were pleased with them.

EAC has been great

4

Nothing but good things from EAC. We have asked TONS of questions. Nights. Weekends. It doesn't matter. They have overdelivered on every timeline and request. The staff has been extremely helpful and professional.

I have come across alot of adoptive parents who are excessively demanding and don't seem to understand that EAC are the experts and you need to follow their advice. Adoption isn't free. This notion that Russia has no fees for adoption is misleading and simply wrong. Other agencies charge money as well that goes to the Russian gov't. Also, EAC will not always have definitive answers. When dealing with the Russian beaucracy or even medical reports, EAC can't always have every definitive answer to every question. This upsets overly demanding people who don't understand we are dealing with a foreign country. My wife and I have both been guilty of this until we took a step back and put our emotions aside.

International adoption will have ups, downs, twists and turns regardless of which agency you use. EAC has been great in navigating us through that.

EAC is a great agency

5

I think EAC is a great agency. I feel the negative comments at the top are left by the same person. EAC has to be selective, if families show "red flags" , well... they have to look out for what is best for the child. I doubt they would blow you off for no reason.

I have nothing but good things to say about this agency.

EAC gets an A+++ in my book

5

I recently adopted two boys from Guatemala. EAC and Adoption Consultant Lynn Kosin were there every step of the way. There is no doubt about it that there is enough documentation and follow-up paperwork to last you a lifetime or two. But the professional staff at EAC guided me gently through the process and made me feel like I was part of their family. If you are thinking about an international adoption you can't go wrong with EAC.

We found the best...EAC

5

Words cannot express how pleased and impressed we were with EAC. From the very beginning of the process we were given all the tools and information we needed to make this adoption a success. They held our hands every step of the way. The timelines for each step in the process were right on and sometimes even earlier than than they anticipated. We were never left in the dark, and our communication with the agency was always very timely and professional. They were very kind and considerate. Both our visit trip and our pick up trip were an absolute joy. EAC made sure transportation was safe and efficient. Our stay at the Clarion was wonderful! The onsite EAC representative was helpful not only at the hotel, but a lifesaver at the embassy! We were never left to fend for ourselves. We loved this agency and would happily recommend EAC in a heartbeat!

Great Experience with EAC

5

We had a wonderful experience adopting our son from Guatemala through EAC. They were very helpful with all of the paperwork before our referral. We received our referral right away and were given frequent updates throughout the process. The best thing about EAC was the great support and guidance given during our pick up trip. Everything was taken care of for us with regards to transportation, security, trips to the market, and our embassy appointment. All we needed to focus on while we were there was spending time with our new son. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Adoption Rating

5

I adopted my first child from Guatemala in 2006, and my second daughter came home in 2008. Although the second time around was longer and more unpredictable, I felt that EAC kept me as informed as they were at the given time. Both are home and are happy and healthy.

Guatemala - satisifed customer

4

I was satisfied with my results and very happy with some aspects of my experience. The best thing is that they really do help you in every way with the travel, and also in understanding the process, especially what you have to do personally to maximize the chances of a smooth and efficient process. What could be improved is ongoing communication. I didn't have any big problems, but would have preferred more frequent and more informative updates. I have heard that some other agencies do a lot better - while others do a lot worse.

Another thing that could be improved is timeliness of the US-side coordination. It took a long time to get the homestudy done and then re-done due to a correction I found, and authenticated and etc. so my referral came a lot later than I expected. It all worked out in the end, but at the time it was frustrating.

I feel my agent truly cared about my case and the agency truly cares about building families. I see some comments above about them being "all about money" and I certainly never felt this at all, though I only have experience with the Guat program.

EAC Was Great

5

My wife and I used EAC and went to a seminar in North Jersey in October of 2006. We then decided together that adopting would be the way for us to have a family together. I, being a police detective, did a lot of research on international agencies. We chose EAC for a Guatemalan adoption and started our paperwork in December of 2006. We got our referral in March 2007 and went on a visit in August 2007. We picked up our son on December 2007 just before both countries went HAGUE compliant. We never had any problems with the agency and our representative was always there either by email or telephone. When she was away she notified us and we had other rep's to help us out. They walked us thru the entire process and even walked us thru the Embassy appointment. I saw many other people down on the pick up that used other agencies and had no one to help them, EAC rep's helped them. I would highly recommend EAC to anyone thinking of adopting internationally. Be aware about the HAGUE convention and do your homework if going to adopt from Guatemala as the rules have changed and nothing is etched in stone right now.

EAC

5

I am a single mom who has adopted a son from Russia and a daughter from Guatemala. Both times I have used EAC, and both times the process and travel could not have gone smoother. EAC always kept me informed of what was happening in country. They thoroughly reviewed my paperwork. I felt very safe and was made very comfortable during travel to both countries by EAC's in country staff. EAC is the agency to use if someone is looking to adopt internationally.

EAC was open, honest, up-front and helpful.

5

The adoption process isn't easy. If you're not ready to work at it, no agency is going to be helpful to you. EAC was knowledgable, honest, enthusiastic and understanding. I did months of research before deciding to go with EAC for my Guatemalan adoption. Every interaction, from my first call to my last, was pleasant and helpful. At no time was I misled or misinformed. Adoption is expensive, and the EAC fees are in line with other agency fees. The only less expensive options were through attorneys who handle everything themselves, but you're still left to figure out a lot on your own. I can't even imagine having gone to Guatemala and navigating my trip and my embassy appointment without the help of the EAC team. Their on-site attorney checks your final paperwork, they have a translator so you can get information from your foster family, their team takes you to the embassy, hands in your paperwork and does everything else so you can bond with your baby. EAC really checks and double checks your paperwork. Many people I've talked to had their paperwork kicked back in the final stages of the process but mine went through the first time! As a single mom who went to Guatemala by myself, EAC not only made my experience anxiety and worry-free, their help allowed me to focus on my new daughter, rather than the intracacies of paperwork and red tape in a foreign country. (If I had one complaint it was that they didn't tell me ahead of time that in NY, you need to order a special "long form" original birth certificate, rather than the standard one, so in addition to the additional fee to re-order my birth certificates, I had a short delay while waiting for the new forms. But, they know now!) My beautiful daughter has been home for 3 months now and she's absolutely amazing! Thanks EAC!

They were the best!

5

I adopted my daughter from Guatemala earlier this year. EAC was the best! They were clear about the process and went over my documents carefully to make sure all was in order before sending them to Guatemala. They had wonderful people in country the entire time I was there, helping and offering ideas from their experience with other families. When the new laws went into effect, EAC was knowledgable and able to give me dependable updates about what was happening. They were always available when I had questions or just wanted to check on my progress--and they were kind, sympathetic and encouraging to boot! I think when I finally got "the call" that I received her adoption decree, they were as excited as I was!! When I decide to adopt again, I already know who to call!

We Couldn't Have Asked for a Better Agency

5

We arrived home with our amazing 8-month old daughter, Kate in mid January 2008. We researched agencies for months before choosing one and finally went with EAC on the recommendation of our social worker. We are enormously grateful for EAC's professional, dedicated staff, who "held our hands" through the incredibly emotional adoption process. Our case coordinator, Kate, was especially wonderful, as was Kala, our kind, safety-conscious, knowledgable "hostess" in Guatemala. In this less favorable international adoption climate we believe it is more important than ever before to find the "right" agency. EAC was definitely the right choice for us, and we would recommend EAC to others with absolutely no reservations.

EAC WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE

5

We adopted from Guatemala through EAC. They were wonderful! We had a great Adoption Rep who helped us every step of the way. The paper work is daunting. They take you through it one step at a time and assist in all questions throughout the process. I still have a great relationship with my Adoption Rep and hold her in high regard. Once we got to Guatemala EAC was by far the best agency on the ground in Guatemala. The EAC families had their rooms all on 1 floor and had a hospitality "baby suite" that had everything from toys to bottles, to baby food, etc. We were never alone! An EAC rep stepped us through the entire process from the drive from the airport to the trips to the embassy, the paper work ALL COMPLETED! We just had to sign the papers! To the trip back to the airport. There were families that went thru other agencies that were lost at the hotel, lost at the airport, and completely unprepared with their paperwork at the Embassy. I felt bad for them. WE HAD NONE of these issues with EAC. They handled everything perfectly from soup to nuts. I would recommend EAC to everyone and anyone.

EAC IS THE BEST!!!

5

We would not have our 2 beautiful, healthy boys if it weren't for EAC guiding us and holding our hand throughout the process. The whole process took less than 8 months from seminar / application until the time we brought our boys home at 23 months and 44 months. We asked a ton of questions - not once were we ever lied to or misled. They told us exactly what would happen when. As nervous as we were prior to the 1st trip to Russia, it actually felt more like a vacation as we felt so taken care of and secure once we were there. I doubt we will be adopting a sibling at this time - but if we did, there would be no questions - EAC would be the agency!

EAC - The #1 International Adoption Agency

5

I researched MANY agencies & finally decided on EAC -- the best decision I've ever made. They were there for me every step of the way (even in the middle of the night when I needed them most!!!) From the moment I attended the info session to the moment my daughter was placed in my arms they were there for me!! I would never dream of using another agency for my 2nd adoption & urge all prospective parents to do their research like I did.

Wonderful experience

4

We highly recommend EAC to others after our wonderful experience adopting two children from Russia in 2004. We have met many others since who have adopted through EAC and all have similiar experiences.

They were great for me!

5

I loved EAC. The treated me wonderfully through the agency selection process and then delivered on what they promised. I was treated well and I have a wonderful daughter from Russia. I always got calls back in less than 24 hours. I set clear expectations on what I was expecting from an agency at the various stages of the process and they were met.

Good Luck in your adoption process.

Wonderful, Kind and Knowledgeable

5

We are adopting our daughter from Guatemala. EAC has been wonderful! They are very knowledgeable about what is going on with all the new changes and uncertainties in Guatemala. They are kind and understanding even when we are frustrated and impatient. When we decide to adopt again, we'll know where to start. THE agency to use!

EAC WAS GREAT

5

We used Eac to adopt all four of our children from various regions in Russia. By the time we did number four we felt so at ease that it was more like a vacation. You are never left to figure things out on your own there is always someone availble to answer questions. We are only sorry that we couldn't do our fifth from China through them. Two of our children were through Alex's Angles a special needs , for some disabilites or because of their ages or sibling groups. Margarets mom always called within a couple of weeks to make sure we were all ok and didn't have any problems. I would highly reccommend using them.

THE agency to use

5

EAC is not only an agency they are family. We are adopting our daughter from Guatemala. EAC helped us with paperwork, put our minds at ease during this transitional time with laws changing, and are with you in country. I can not say enough wonderful things. If you are planning an international adoption, I say EAC is THE and ONLY agency to use!

Terrific Service

5

We adopted from Russia with EAC. It was a terrific experience from start to finish. The whole process took less than 10 months and our child is amazing - healthy, smart and wonderfully attached to us. The staff in Ohio was great - walked us through the whole paperwork saga. The in-country staff in Russia took excellent care of us.

EAC was with us through the

5

EAC was with us through the whole adoption process. We had security with us the whole time we were there. They never left are side we felt very safe...I cant say enough about them!!!!!

Guatemalan Adoption

4

EAC has been wonderful through our Guatemalan adoption! Even with the changing laws, Lynn Kosin has been remarkable with informing us of the next step(s) we will have to take to bring our daughter home! Lynn will call each week to just check in on us, even if there is no change in our paperwork - she is AWESOME!!
Our daughter is still in Guatemala and we look forward to working with EAC and Lynn to bring her home!

Guatamala with EAC

5

Our experience with EAC was top-notch. We adopted from Guatemala, and the whole Guatemala department was easy to deal with, especially our main contact person, Lynn Kocin. All timelines and information given to us throughout the process, including info on all fees, was very honest and realistic. Lynn communicated with us constantly, even if she just called us to check how we were holding up. It is unfortunate others have had a bad experience, no matter the department. It was a very trying time in our lives and I'm so happy EAC held our hand through the entire process. Lynn still is in contact with us to say hello even though our daughter has been home for four months now. While in Guatemala, our representatives didn't let us lift a finger and held our hands every step, including having hired private security. I would highly recommend EAC and would use them again in the future.
