I knew nothing about this agency 3 years ago and cannot speak as to the service at that time; however, I did want to respond to this review. If that is how things were 3 years ago, things have changed for the better. We are in PGN right now and the Guatemala advocate did an awesome job helping us prepare our dossier! He knows the process inside and out and answers all of our questions in a timely manner. The attorney, her staff, the foster moms and the agency make a great team. Everyone works well together in the best interest of the child.
The agency is wonderful. My advocate communicates regularly and responds to questions very quickly. They have all gone above and beyond to help us to this point in our adoption. They were very helpful and flexible when we decided after receiving our first referral to pursue a second child at the same time. I am VERY glad we chose this agency.
We were very pleased with our adoption from Guatemala. We love the attorney/facilitator that they use. Their communication was sometimes not the best. (We weren't told right away when we were done with a particular step) This actually didn't bother me because we ended up being further ahead in our process than I thought.
We adopted two children from Guatemala using AHH. Excellent agency. They were friendly, easy to work with, quick to respond to questions, and very supportive. They went out of their way to help us with problems in the process.
AHH is wonderful. They were attentive to my needs. They were patient with me and my calls during my inpatient times while waiting for my daughter. They are an agency of integrity and a true love for the children. Their goal is to unite families and they achieve that. I will use them again for all of my future adoptions!
They do not return phone calls or e-mails quickly. Staff does not seem to work together--one will tell you one thing about your paperwork, etc..and someone else will tell you something entirely different. Also, about 2 years ago, they shut down their discussion board for "maintenance". I have asked numerous times when it will be back up and no one will respond AT ALL. They appear to not want people to talk to one another. Social workers they use are not well trained--paperwork continually wrong. If, in my job, I made the mistakes in my paperwork (which, in fact, does affect families futures), I have to redo it correctly (at no cost). For what we pay the social worker, you would think they would have to get the information correct.
We brought home our Guatemala angel before she was 6 months old (which is quicker than normal). The staff would return calls/e-mail within a few days and we received updates regularly. I liked that the US staff knew the fostermothers and had visited them. Our Guatemala attorney Cinthya really had a love for the children.
We have completed 1 adoption with AHH and are currently logged in for our 2nd with them. Their staff has always been very good about answering our questions and in a timely manner. We had the same SW for both adoptions and are very pleased with her professionalism and accuracy. The AHH staff in China is the best!
A Helping Hand was really wonderful through the difficult international adoption process. We were rejected from China because of health issues, and they advocated for us until the ninth hour. Our switch in countries from China to Guatemala was very smooth and they helped us with every detail. All the staff are very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. We knew what was going on at every stage of the process and felt that we were well informed and taken care of. They went out of their way to make sure we felt secure, and in the end we now have our wonderful son! I would highly recommend this agency to anyone trying to brave the international adoption path.
