My husband and I consider Betty Smith part of our family's inner circle because she led us to our beautiful and healthy daughter, and because Betty was obviously used as God's vessel in our lives. We spoke to her on the phone the same day we registered our family's application with her, and about two weeks later, we were matched with our daughter's birth family and on a plane to meet our newborn baby!
Betty is a wonderful woman who is an adoptive parent herself. I knew she was personally committed to the best adoption possible when she read every word of our application and asked us for some detail about some of the things we had written. I felt she was really trying to get to know us personally. She called us before she shared our information with any other adoption professional. We were aware every time our profile was being presented. Any time I called her, she answered the phone or called me back within 1 day.
Our adoption went flawlessly. We flew out of state to meet our daughter the morning after we heard that our daughter was born (we hadn't been chosen by the birth family until our daughter was born), and we came home with her 7 days later. We still send pictures to Betty, because like I said, she feels like extended family. She has my trust. I am a Christian, and there are definite times in my life when I have felt that my steps were just "ordered by the Lord" so that a situation ran smoothly and like clockwork so that I could walk in God's plan for me. Working with Betty was one of those occasions. It was like God greased the wheels of our adoption process by putting all of the right people and all of the right everything perfectly in place so that we could have our daughter home.
