My wife and I adopted from Kazakhstan with the help of the MAPS International agency based in Maine. (I don't know why the name is displayed otherwise above.) We found their pre-adoption information kit to be complete, and their staff more than helpful with every step of the complicated process. The Kaz program director, Libby Walch, was easy to contact and had evidence of much experience. The program's estimation of travel and in-country expenses was very accurate.
And their in-country coordinator for our city, Kostanai, was excellent - friendly, knowledgable about the area and the process, and well-connected with local officials. She had been with MAPS for more than 10 years in Kazakhstan. MAPS provided help post-placement in getting our daughter re-adopted in Florida, and I would recommend them to anybody considering adoption from Kazakhstan, and they'd probably be excellent in their other programs too.
