I have not yet adopted. I am in the process of finding an agency. Is it normal for the staff to be paid so highly? According to the 2006 990 filed by EAC with the IRS (can be viewed at www.guidestar.org) the director earned closed to $200,000 in 2006 and her board and staff contains a few relatives that are also well paid. Seems excessive to me.
Director's salaries can be even higher than that. The cirector at my agency is making over 300K! Just because an organization is a "non-profit" doesn't mean the directors and employees have to make meager salaries. Is it right? Who knows. Maybe these people work non-stop and are entitled to such a salary since this tends to be an all consuming type job. I can think of a lot less worth while jobs that have much higher salaries. In the end it's a relative thing.
