EAC was NOT great

1

Just found this website today, however started with EAC earlier this year for the Guatemala program. We chose EAC off a referral, but maybe EAC is selective who is a good vs. not and that is then when they decide who gets the good treatment. We started the process with them and then when we started asking detailed questions they said that we must not want a child bad enough, since doing too much talking and not enough to move forward with process. Only a month or two into process we decided to part ways with EAC and went with another agency. This other agency may not have a person to answer the phone 24 hours a day, but who cares. I call during my lunch and lots of emails and not once have they told me I was asking too many questions. Also, EAC sells you on the fact that they have a hotel and staff in Guatemala, which is nice, but the Westin also has a hospitality suite and most in hotel spoke English and it is 2 blocks from Clarion/drug store. This is you and your future child's future you can not do enough research for your perfect fit and if you have a bad feeling listen to it. Also, decide your country before agency so you can find an agency with expencience and track record, that is what we did. But would not recommend EAC at all.

Adoption

Dear Anonymous,
We are attending a EAC seminar this weekend, and I started reading all of the posts on the internet. I have found that people either love EAC or absolutely hate them. Do you have any info. on how the Guatemalan adoption process is going? Have you found any other Guatemalan agencies that you feel comfortable with? We will be starting the process within the next year, so any info. you have found will be so helpful!

Adoption- Guatemala

Dear poster-

Giatemala is currently shut down. Any agency that is hosting informational seminars for Guatemala is doing you a disservice. Per the US, no orphan petitions can be filed Guatemala at this time as the US is now Hague compliant and the US does ot see Guatemala as Hague complaint.
Guatemala is in process of changing their laws and adoption process to be Hague compliant, but they are still working out details.
In Gautemala, your file had to be registered by March 12th to be considered "in process' and under the old laws. For the US, the petition had to be filed by 31Dec2007.

At this point no one can speak to when and if Guatemala will ever open back up for adoptions to the US. I suggest you read the following website for more specific information and clarification on anything I might have misspoken about (I am doing this from memory)
