I am REALLY surprised to hear that you finalized your baby's adoption less than one month after taking him/her home. WOW...in what state do you live?
By the way, the reason I ask is that I would like to share this positive story with others in the adoption community who have had to wait 6 months to one year to finalize.
In the county we finalized in in Arkansas, they will finalize after the 10 days are up for bio mom to decide whether or not she will relinquish her rights. In our case, the 10 days were up, then we had a court date. Bio father was on the putative father registry, but there had been no hits, and so his rights were terminated as well. We are from NH, but NH goes with the placing state and Arkansas allows you to finalize in state.
Thanks for sharing. I participate in other adoption groups, and may share this info regarding Arkansas! Don't worry...I won't mention any of your personal details.
Here in California, you have to wait 6 months post-relinquishment before you can finalize. During this 6-mo period, the social worker conducts their post-placement assessment.
