As noted above, Kerry Palakanis abandoned her clients and the children of Guatemala. As the clients find each other, they are finding similarities in their case histories:
1. multiple lost referrals
2. fee structures designed to reel in the paps, and render them powerless in the transaction
3. forged documents
4. Guat contacts who are not attorneys
5. agency complaints that were ignored by the state licensing boards
6. case management style that included fear and intimidation on behalf of the agency.
7. a "board of directors" who accept no responsibility for the financial mismanagement of the company, nor the predatory activities of it's employees.
It is doubtful that Project Oz Adoptions will ever "exist" again. However, it is important that the principal, Kerry Colleen Goldman Palakanis is known - as Kerry has krept under the radar by switching states and starting up new businesses.
Remember Kerry's name - and not just Project Oz. For, a rose by any other name ....
I am the co-owner/moderator of PAPs_v_POZ and encourage anyone who has been a victim of Ms. Palakanis and Project Oz to join this group. You will be contacted and asked to supply certain information - this is requested of everyone who desires to join this group.
Our daughter's adoption story has been on many Yahoo sites. We adopted her after her first adoption was disrupted. She had only been with that family for approx. 6 weeks when she began to show inappropriate behaviors toward a younger sibling in that family. The behaviors escalated and the adoption was disrupted immediately. Kerry flew to that state and immediately transported the child back to Maryland - there was no ICPC involvement. The child was placed into a "foster" home for approx. 3 months. We had decided to go to POZ for a homestudy only and after talking with Kerry and Becky, heard about this child. Within 3 weeks, the child was living in our home - no fingerprinting, no background check - NOTHING. The rest is history. Except, now the child is not in our home either as the same behaviors that caused the first disruption have caused the child to be placed in a facility. Oh yes, AND, Kerry of course, "forgot" to tell us about the reason for the disruption of the first adoption. I may say "forgot" but she was asked repeatedly and we were never told, nor was our lawyer. But she didn't forget to ask for a second adoption fee from us.
While there are many adoptions that have yet to be completed; there are also those adoptions that are not so well known about - the disrupted adoptions. Keep in mind that prior to coming to Maryland, those were the adoptions that Kerry specialized in at the "other" adoption agency in Pennsylvania. We are also seeking those parents who have been involved in the disrupted/dissolved adoptions in order to speak to you and hear your stories. Please contact me and/or join PAPs_v_POZ. Thank you. Liz.
