I have read you blogs and posts here. All I can hope is that you seek counseling and mental help. I am saddened by your sad story. Your adoption was very traggic. I hope that with enough help you can heal. The rest of us, and our children, have been blessed by Spence Chapin. For your information we were part of a latin adoption program....not that the race of our baby is your business. Despite your hateful words, God absolutely wanted us to be parents. That's how we were lead to Spence. I have a heart filled with love that is showered on my baby. I am sure he will turn out just fine. I pray for you. You are a sad man to attack innocent people. Please get help.
That is your headline describing my true experience? A birth mother gave up her child so that you could be a parent but you express disdain. That is exactly my point: In all these decades psychriatrists are only now gathering anecdotal evidence about birth mothers' experiences particularly those who relinquished children prior to the early 1960s. Birth mothers always faced the disdain you register, now and still, in 2011. Imagine what it was like in pre 1965! How dare you be so callus and insensitive.
Very little attention was ever shown to these mothers before or after the adoption on the assumption they would simply resume their lives. Not true. For most, if not all, the shame, secrecy, and heartache has followed them the rest of their lives not unlike post traumatic stress syndrome. The burden of coping often led to addiction, poor self esteem and failed relationships. Only recently have psychiatrists published birth mother studies and they are revealing in their similarities. Revealing and heartbreaking.
In my own case, my son and his parents experienced their own problems with Spence Chapin and my son has written his account as well.
I am glad to read of all the current success stories. Unlike the prior author, I bare no ill will to any, but meant to shine a light on what I hope are past wrongs and inadequacies at Spence Chapin. Since there seem to be no reports from other birth mothers I can only wonder about their experiences to date and if there has been an improvement in counseling to them as well as the adoptee and adoptive parents. I trust so.
God Bless All the Children of the World...If you are a nice person, why call someone a fool. Do you know what I have experienced at Spence-Chapin. I would never call anyone a fool. That's just me. So I take it your newly adopted child can not go against what you believe because you would call them a fool and write them off. I am concerned about your ability to be loving over a long peried of time. Cahnge your ways and be a good person all the time not just when you are buying a child from Spence-Chapi...
Personally, I did not wish you to be bothered by my statements. I think it is good that folk are willing to take children who are not theirs and share love and life with. But if these children act out or are not as obidient as you would like, do you hate them then. I write to cause people to think. Spence-Chapin is all about the money and if you loose my mental facilities and become angry and abusive; Spence-Chapin will not care about the child. You can rape the child, beat the child and even kill the child and Spence-Chapin won't care. The child is left to die and for those children, I speak for. Hopefully I made you more than a Great and Conscious Adopted Parent. I wish you well and next time there is a subject you don't like or understand, please don't call names, communicate your concerns. Peace and many Blessing be with you and your family. Peace.
