Criminals. Literally. Under federal investigation!
I have no clue how this agency survived for so long. They were recently raided by the FBI (it's on the news...Look it up) and we're debarred on 12/16/16 by the State Department. My family, like many others, were in country with absolutely no clue this was happening. They picked up a chunk of cash from us only to be out of business two days later. And that snakey disingenuous "I am such a great person for creating these beautiful families!" Margaret Cole's KNEW about the sanctions but let everyone travel anyway--this information has been verified that she absolutely was aware of the FEDERAL INVESTIGATION. She belongs in jail. Our "easy" adoption is still not completed. Families are stranded, out tens of thousands of dollars and in some heartbreaking cases kids have be RETURNED because they were the victims of trafficking! It's all true and it boggles the mind how anyone can be such a sociopath as to allow this to happen in the pursuit of the Almighty Dollar. Because believe me, it's all about the $ with this crew. They will lie to your face with their hands out. Do a Google search and see all the lawsuits over the years. Their Mo is to manipulate people into adoption and withhold information about the children's issues. I wish that real reviews had been out there when we signed up...These kinds of boards are padded with EAC staff touting the excellent service of their agency under pseudonyms. My gut feeling was off from day one and I can honestly say I was in no way surprised when I found out I was stuck in a foreign country with my children and EAC had flown the coop. The DoS litany of sins includes bribery, trafficking, intimidation, fraud, you name it. Adoptive parents: don't let what happened to us happen to you! Choose VERY carefully! This industry operates like the Wild West with no accountability. Please please please walk away if things feel off, if you don't get straight answers, if the cash requested is beyond what is agreed, if ANYTHING rubs you the wrong way! EAC preyed on people who wanted to help kids AND the kids themselves! There's a special place in hell for people like this.
Don't Even Begin With This Agency
EAC is horrible. There is next to no communication from the point they get your first program fees on. Our country closed and they assured us that our adoption would not be affected. We proceeded in good faith and they gave us a placement (but not until after we insisted they either move on this or let us go). They never knew who we were when we called. They asked us to update our home study for a sibling group and we did. They then said they didn't know we were willing to take a single child even though this is what we applied for in the beginning. We were with them for three years before placement. The placement came after the country decided to close. They mislead us and we accepted the placement then they asked us to complete a series of impossible tasks to keep going. As we waited we heard many stories of corruption of the lawyer they force you to use in country. These stories mainly came through a friend who was adopting and got a referral before the country closed. They told stories of even greater lack of communication and unethical acts of the lawyer. We ended up leaving the agency but by the time that happened, they had half of our money that we had raised. Today we are sure if we have it in us to continue after such a horrible experience with this agency. Run away while you can. Most of the positive reviews come from people who used this agency over ten years ago. Another adoption professional finally told us that EAC has a horrible reputation in the adoption community. I wish we would have known that a long time ago.
After nearly 9 years of infertility and wanting our family to grow, we started asking questions and looking at the many beautiful waiting children on several different pages online. We considered Great Wall and several other agencies. We sent emails and made phone calls reaching out to ask about a few different children on the waiting children lists. To our surprise and disappointment, we didn't receive many positive responses or return messages (we decided that a lot of people must call, but never follow through). This was our first adoption and we had a lot of questions and we needed someone that we could trust fully with helping us to grow our family and find OUR child or children. Not really knowing what to expect or truly understanding the commitment we were about to make, we called EAC to ask about some children. From that first phone call and subsequent emails, EACi were helpful and professional. We stepped very blindly but with great faith into the process of adoption feeling like EACi had the experience and organization to get us safely and as quickly as possible to our children. EACi and all of the wonderful people that work there have guided us, gave us encouragement and helped us through every step of the way. There are ALWAYS bumps along the adoption road. EACi knows how to get you through those bumps as quickly and painlessly as possible.
We began our adoption of Nicholas in October 2005. We had tried many adoption agencies, routes, fertility, etc and nothing had worked out for us. We were discouraged and were going to give up until I saw an advertisement for European Adoption Consultants and felt compelled to try just one last time. We contacted them in early October and we felt confident and at ease in our first telephone conversation. We had many fears of going outside the country for a child but EAC worked patiently with us, answered every question, directed us to many websites for support/reading. During the process it didn't matter the time of day they were there to support us. We worked months to complete our paperwork expeditiously and finally it was time for us to meet our son for the first time in Russia! We met him in January only 3 months after!! We were kept well informed of our needs for travel. However nothing helped more than the support we had in the country! Such an emotional time. But our friends at EAC were with us every step of the way and the first day we saw our son it was well worth it. Beautiful, healthy, brown eyed, blond 4 year old! We as a family have grown over the years and our son is now 14 years old and is a wonderful young man. We still keep in touch with our EAC family and have utilized them through the years for support as needed. We strongly encourage any family to reach out to EAC for any additions to your family!
I adopted my son Danya from this agency in 2010. being a single mom living in the US and wanting to adopt from Russia was tough.
Also at this time there was a lot of scandal on the TV because ,Torri Hansen had sent her adopted son back on a one way flight to Moscow and the Russians were threatening to ban adoptions from the USA. ( WHICH NOW THEY HAVE) We honestly had so many obstacles in the way, only EAC could have got me through this.
I have nothing but outstanding things to say about this agency and the staff in both countries . It was absolutely amazing. The entire process took less than a year, they held my hand all the way with the paperwork required by the Russians and being a single woman alone in a foreign country the Russian crew were by my side every step of the way.
When my adopted was completed and we were home, they constantly touched base with me to ensure all was going okay. ( They did not take the money and run) I now have a wonderful son because of Margaret and the team.
Thank you EAC.......
EAC- In the Business of making Families! :)
With the help of EAC, we completed four adoptions ( 2011, 2013,2015). They were great! Adoption is an extremely stressful and tedious process. There is nothing easy about it! There a tons of emotions that you go through in the process. It is vital to have a trusting and reliable agency representing you! My husband and I looked at so many options with agencies before our first adoption. It is an overwhelming decision! We chose EAC for their trusted and stable process. The staff make it as simple as possible and always take time to answer questions, provide information, or just listen! You will find that your agency representative will become a member of your family. In fact, you will speak to them more than you speak to some of your family! Karla is amazing! There were so many times that I called her stressing and asking the same question that I had asked her a thousand times! She never turned me away and always reassured me that everything was going to work! Our processes both Russia and Bulgaria were smooth and EAC was there every step of the way! I would recommend EAC to any family who is thinking of adopting!

So Thankful For EAC!
We completed the adoption of our daughter from India through EAC in April of 2015. We encountered many bumps and frustrations on the road. We've come to expect the snags and hold-ups in International Adoption in general. Through every delay, every frustration, every heartache, EAC and specifically our caseworker, Karla was there for us. We were always given as much information as they had about each step of the process and each delay when it happened. We had some unforeseen things happen in our process and our caseworker went to bat for us! She advocated for us and our family to the best of her ability. It was such a comfort to know that we had chosen an agency that was willing to fight to bring us together as a family.
Having a person in India with us to help guide us through the ins and outs of our pick-up trip was such a blessing! Our guide was so helpful and professional and great with our daughter! We also received calls and emails from EAC representatives while we were in India that helped get us through those tough first days of transition.
We originally chose this agency because we had witnessed the incredible post-adoption support EAC gives to their families. We have friends who adopted two children through EAC at separate times and the agency has been an amazing support even almost a decade later! I can say now that we are home, we definitely made the right choice. We are experiencing that same level of support from EAC in our post-adoption process. We have been so blessed by choosing EAC for our adoption. When we are ready to expand our family again, I know exactly which agency to call!
Great Agency, Highly Recommend
We just completed our second adoption with EAC and I have nothing but great things to say about this agency!
Our first son was adopted from Russia in 2012, and even though the program was struggling and nearing it's end, EAC was professional, knowledgeable and very supportive. They did everything in their power to help us complete our adoption at a time when Russia was changing the rules almost on a daily basis.
We completed the adoption of our second son, from China, this past April. EAC's China program is second to none! They have a one-to-one program with an orphanage in Xuzhou, China. This relationship helps to ensure that the children receive the best care, in a brand new orphanage. The communication with the orphanage is fast and reliable.
The guides that EAC uses in country are knowledgeable and experienced. I met a lot of families, in both Russia & China, that were completely on their own, sent over by their agency with little direction. EAC holds your hand every step of the way while traveling!
HORRIBLE AGENCY!! RUN, DON'T WALK
Used them for our adoption from Guatemala in 2003. All was well (so we thought) until we hit some snags in our 'paperwork'. We were lied to on several occasions and had 2 nightmare trips to Guatemala where we didn't even think we were going to able to see our child. They do not have the families and the children's best interest at heart. Terrible, terrible experience.
Run, do not walk, away from this agency!!!!!!!! The epitome of unprofessionalism from the very beginning. When our process of adopting from Russia was cut short because of the ban, EAC REFUSED to refund the monies we had paid toward the adoption, which numbered in the thousands of dollars, even though they had done no work on our behalf. Additionally, the agent with whom we worked never really answered questions when we asked and was always very evasive. When news of the votes in favor of the ban broke in the US, we knew more about it than they did - significantly less than helpful. Again, I beg you, RUN AWAY from this agency!!!!!!
EAC has a pattern of lying
I felt like I got a high-pressured sales pitch when I called them. I did get the feeling that they really cared about children and would do anything to get them adopted. I thought that might be okay, but I did not like it when they lied to me and the person doing my homestudy and the person doing my psych evaluation--different lies every time. In the end, the person doing my home study talked me out of continuing with them. They did get a good chunk of my money, and it was a painful lesson learned.
When I called their phone number, I felt like I got a high powered sales pitch, but I did feel like they cared about finding homes for children. I just felt like they would do anything to accomplish that goal. I thought that might be okay, but I should have gone with my first impression as there were a lot of lies--not only to me, but to the person doing my home study and the person doing my psych evaluation (different lies each time). They did keep asking me for more money, but they did also get some other fees lowered for me. I'm not sure I would say they were all about the money, but they sure did get a lot of mine. In the end the person doing my home study advised me to get out. It was a painful lesson learned.
My experience with EAC: mostly positive
I adopted my daughter in October 2009. My total cost was $40,000.00. That includes airfare for FOUR trips, hotel, cash payoffs, etc.
My daughter needed two surgeries. Fortunately, I had insurance and the copays were $1500 per surgery. Her condition is permanent. I was not told about it beforehand, which of course is per the contract that I signed. Her condition is not obvious just by looking at her.
The MOST important thing to know about my daughter is that she is emotionally healthy. She had bonded and attached to her caregivers. She grieved when she left Russia (at 13 months old).
Most medical conditions can be healed, repaired, etc. The emotional conditions are much more difficult. I am thankful that my daughter was LOVED in Russia and now shows affection and is very loving and happy.
My complaints about EAC are that the other family that I traveled with were only told to bring $2,000 cash payoff per trip. But I was told $4,000 cash per trip.
EXPECT that your child will have some medical needs when they get home. But with insurance and love and patience, they will do fine. Was the process perfect? Absolutely not. Was the pre-adoptive paperwork disorganized and difficult? Yes. Was it worth every single minute and dollar? 1000% yes.
If I decide to adopt again, I would never go with any other agency than EAC. They have the MOST experience in Russia and it showed.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH EAC
WE RESEARCHED, WE VISITED THEM, WE TALKED TO OTHER PARENTS. THEY WERE "NICE" TO US. THEY "HELPED" US, OR SO WE THOUGHT, IN RUSSIA. HERE WE ARE THREE YEARS LATER AND OUR DAUGHTER IS 5 AND HAS 24 DIAGNOSES SO FAR. SHE'S IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL. OUR PRIVATE INSURANCE IS ABOUT TO RUN OUT AND WE ARE NOT SURE HOW WE'RE GOING TO PAY FOR HER NEEDS. WE LOVE OUR DAUGHTER BUT WE ASKED FOR A CHILD WITH MINOR, CORRECTABLE DEFECTS. ALL OF HER DISABILITIES COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED...FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME, REACTIVE ATTACHMENT DISORDER, BIPOLAR DISORDER, MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER, POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER/ AUTISM, ADHD, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. SHE WILL BE DEPENDENT UPON US FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. THEN WHAT?
DO NOT TRUST EAC.
