Tree of Life Adoption Center
Find another agency!
This is a great agency if you can do all the paperwork by yourself with limited assistance or information. Basically, they tell you what paperwork needs be done, you do it, you send them your money and the dossier and you never hear from them again. In other words, the country may not even be doing adoptions any more and you'll never know about it. Your paperwork may be wrong and you will never know about it. Good luck! You will be told that things are progressing and that the typical time to adopt is 2 years. Families who have actually finalized their adoption state it is 4 years. The problem is that you never know the truth or what is going on. You are not in contact with other families from the agency so you are at the mercy of TOL for information. You may be one of the lucky ones who actually has a smooth, quick, informative adoption process. More than likely this will not be the case. Also, it is a 1 or 2 person agency so don't go to this agency if you truly need help with the adoption process. The one good thing about TOL is that they try to be a good honest adoption agency and for that I added one star to their review. I hope someone finds this review helpful. The adoption agency reviews on the internet are generally not truthful and favor the agencies.
Wonderful and Professional
We have been working with Tree of Life for several months now with our Ethiopian adoption. The nature of the agency facilitates an efficient, ethical, and professional program and we couldn't be more pleased. You can expect to receive clear, timely, and honest direction with as much support as you need in the United States or abroad. Unlike the massive adoption agencies, you are not just a number with Tree of Life and the staff works very hard to accomodate every request and concern, even if you happen to live in another state as we do...
We used the Tree of Life office based in Portland, OR for our two Russian adoption and are working on a third adoption at the moment. They are the most wonderful group of people to work with and I would never think of using anyone else to complete future adoptions. They are honest hard working people dedicated to finding homes for any orphan they can. They work as if each process is their own adoption. May God bless their hard work!
"There are no unwanted children, only unfound families."
TOL has been wonderful. They are very supportive and attentive to my needs. They are great about answering questions and explaining things. Updates are given frequently.
We had a horrible exerience with this agency. They took our money and we have no child to show for it. They not only referred a child to us that was not ever truly available, but once things started going downhill, they became very difficult to reach.
Staff changed during our process (staff member went down the street and opened her own agency) and there was no accountability for what happened to us.
There are too many good agencies (with LOTS of great ratings from clients) and PAP's should seek these agencies out.
If you do your homework on this agency, you will find several huge problems with they way they do business IMHO.
So far so good
I am adopting from Kazakhstan and working with Tree of Life. I did not do a lot of research before I chose to work with them...I just went on my instincts. I'm so glad I did! Right now I am just waiting on word to travel and although it has taken a little longer than expected, they have kept me in the loop at every step and I have never questioned my decision. They only work in one region of the country which may seem like a disadvantage to some, but really it allows them to stay so connected that they know what is happening and what to expect at every step. I have needed a lot of hand holding and they have done just that. I have no doubt that my travel experience will go as smoothly as the paperwork.
FYI, updated contact info can be found on their website.
